Okay… so maybe Caffeine isn’t so bad after-all?

I found this article on MSNBC today that I thought was interesting enough to blog about.

According to a research study done by Rutgers University, caffeine and exercise is a great combination to fight against cancer. Because science jargon makes no sense and Phil Lempert explains the reasoning behind this beautifully, I’m going to let him tell you:

“The combination, they said, increases the positive destruction of precancerous cells (apoptosis) damaged by the sun’s dangerous ultraviolet-B radiation. For example, when skin cells are overly exposed to the sun’s rays, the DNA is damaged. That starts a process in which the DNA is self programmed (apoptosis) to destruct, although not all the cells do. Some become cancerous.” Phil Lempert, Todayshow.com Contributor

Of course, the testing has only been done on hairless mice so far. It might have a different reaction on mice with hair (insert sarcasm). As with many scientific studies that are run, they still don’t really know the long-term affects or even if their results are 100% accurate. The article goes on to say that so far the outcomes of the tests run have been more positive than not.

In my opinion and from what I’ve seen, for every 1 good article about caffeine you can find 5 bad ones. So while this new finding shows that caffeine might have the ability to help fight against cancer, it also has been researched to raise blood pressure and to take calcium out of bones thus serving as a promoting factor of Osteoporosis.

In the end, research is still research (meaning unfinished) and until everything is 100% set in stone, it’s best to continue to read up on new findings and make the choice that best fits your lifestyle.

Now with that said… Diet Pepsi Max anyone?
