A sweet blast from the past…

May 10, 2008

Owbie and I went grocery shopping this evening. I must say that it is much more relaxing to shop in the evening on the weekends than it is to try and beat the morning crowd on a Saturday. Tonight as we were going down every aisle, Owbie would point to things he wanted. You know… the essentials like Goldfish crackers and Oreo Cookies.

Then, we came to the ice cream aisle. As much as I resisted temptation to load the cart with a bunch of over-processed foods, I couldn’t help but indulge in a little cold creamy goodness! Owbie picked out Superman ice cream. At first, I didn’t remember the taste. I only remembered that it looked like something a clown threw up.

When we got home, Owbie wanted a bowl of ice cream. He had been a great little helper at the store so I told him to get in his chair and I would get him a bowl of his superman ice cream. I set the bowl in front of him and with a serious look on his face, he set about to *trying* the new food. He must have liked it because he shoveled it in, spoonful by spoonful. Finally he said to me… “Mommy! I tried it and I liked it!” (He gets this from a Television Show… Yo Gabba Gabba. It’s so much cuter when he says it though! *giggle*)

Later on in the evening, I decided to have a spoonful of clown-throwup myself. It was surprisingly good and brought back all kinds of memories! Like when I was 11 and my friend Lisa and I would make Blue Moon and Coca Cola floats!

Just like my son, I can now say this about superman ice cream…. I tried it and I liked it! It’s kinda like Kellogg’s Cornflakes, ya know?

Yes, I am hearing impaired…

Not many people know this but since I was a wee lass, I have had atrocious issues with my ears and essentially, my hearing.  As a result, the radio is louder in the car and the television is louder in the house.  Unfortunately, my hubby has sensitive ears as do my children so often times, I will turn the volume down to something that is more comfortable for them.  That is why I am greatful that there is such a thing as closed captioning. It seems that my family appreciates the lower volume, while I appreciate still being able to understand and comprehend the program. There’s nothing worse than going into a situation and *not* being able to hear what is being said. During many instances in my life, I have had small bouts of anxiety when in a situation where someone is soft spoken.

Grown up Speak: Insurance

I think I have finally come to a place in my life where I am on the constant communication line of grown up speak.  My husband and I were discussing medical insurance and home insurance the other day. I never thought I would need to discuss home owner’s insurance. In today’s world, insurance has become a necessary “just in case” part of life that is hard to avoid.

In any case, we discussed our options and came to a conclusion.  It’s funny how something so grown up can still be boring, even to grown ups!
