The most wonderful time of the year!

September 30, 2008

Man, I LOVE this time of year! I got my Halloween decorations out early (to which husb is endlessly teasing me about. He thinks our neighbors are going to freak out about the shrunken skeleton heads hanging on the porch!).

I love the smell of fall, the cooler weather, the beautiful colors, the holidays…. especially the holidays!

I have started the family tradition of baking up a storm during this time of year. One of my favorite desserts is pumpkin pie! Although, I do like sweet potato pie as well!

What kind of pie do you prefer during the holidays?

Oy Vey…

So, i’m not sure how many of you ladies have had your husbands change diapers… but are they babies about it?

Little Brodykins needed to be changed this evening and I enlisted my husband to help. Now mind you, I do most (if not ALL) of the diaper changing around here because #1 it was part of our agreement with me being able to stay home and #2 my husband HATES doing it. Especially the poopy ones.

Anyway… so he was changing Brody’s diaper and lo and behold, the little guy pooped his pants. So as my husband is changing his diaper he is gagging so loud that the other kids run into the bedroom to see what is happening. I am standing there rolling my eyes as I push him gently aside to finish the task sans-gagging.

Maybe I have a stronger stomach because I used to change adult diapers when I worked with my mom in her AFC (Adult Foster Care) business. It was no big deal to me then and even less of a deal now. *shrugs*

Now really… how are your husbands with the whole diaper changing ordeal? Are they big babies too?

Cute as a bug!

September 28, 2008

I found the cutest carpet steam cleaners in the world today! The Ladybug steam cleaners do a great job on carpets and more! My husband and I recently decided to invest in a steam cleaner for our carpeting. Let’s face it guys, having kids can leave our carpets looking less than clean much of the time!

Do you own a steam cleaner? How often do you use it? Do you like it?

Read… Write…. React.

September 25, 2008

I have been frequenting a new favorite blog of mine for a few weeks (thank you Entrecard!) and came across a post today on Health Care. It was good. So good in fact, that I am encouraging all who visit this blog to check it out! Oh and read the comments too! His readers are extremely well-written and knowledgeable! If this doesn’t get your mojo going this morning to want to change things in this country, I don’t know what will…

Read. Write. React.

Financial woes and Clay Aiken

So, i’m stupid.  Dumb, dumb dumb.  I went out last night and spent $40 worth of Halloween/Autumn decorations for the house and did not check our finances first.  So of course, I checked with our bank first thing this morning (like I always do) and we are $100 in the hole!  Bleh!  Stupid me! *slaps forehead*

Now i’m sitting here looking at those Halloween decorations as the most useless items on the planet.  I wasn’t sorry when I bought them (I was quite excited actually because they are downright cute!), but I sure am sorry now… knowing that it cost me an extra $100.  Live, learn, and then buy Luvs…. right?

In other news…. Clay Aiken finally came out of the closet.  Raise your hand if you were surprised to find out that he is gay.  *scans room*  … Anybody?

In reality trash news… Bret Michaels will be the star of yet another “Rock of Love” only this time he will find love on the road.  I have to say that although i’m excited to see another Rock of Love hit the airwaves, i’m just a little over Bret Michaels.  I was hoping they’d get Tommy Lee or Richie Sambora to be the next ROL front man.

Bleh… I can’t stop thinking about my financial blunder!  Well… at least I don’t have to spring for any Ferrari parts. Heck, we don’t even own a Ferrari. I now consider myself a Minivan mogul!

The Big Bailout

September 24, 2008

I’m sure by now most of you have heard of the Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG Insurance fiasco.  It’s kind of hard to ignore 700 billion dollars.

You know… I don’t think I have ever felt as “unstable and unsafe” in these times as I did when watching Fox news endlessly on the topic of our government bailing out the two mortgage programs and a huge insurance company.

My first thought was… “Let em’ fall.”  People take risks when they own businesses.  After all, my parents lost a lot over the past 2 years, including their own business.  It was a risk they took and no government program was there to bail them out.  They lost the house, their land and their business.  It was a hard swallow on a very personal level.

However, after looking more into the situation, I realize that there is no choice but to proceed with the “bail out”.  If our government didn’t bail these companies/programs out of the crapper, then our economy would fall even more into the dark abyss. Didn’t a major bank just recently close up shop?

I’m starting to think that we’re headed for a cataclysmic great depression… Y2K style.

Any thoughts?

Exciting stuff!

September 17, 2008

So, I have been diligently working on a friend’s photography website and I must say, i’m pretty darn proud of myself!  I have been learning flash and advanced html coding!  It is a lot to learn but sooo exciting at the same time!

As soon as I am done with the site, I will have to show everyone!  I am really excited about the type of photography work she does as it is incredibly artful, creative, and life out loud! It is so exciting and she does such good work that I am constantly advertising her to everyone I know!

I’m two steps away from buying some promotional pens with her name on them! LOL!

Oh Chowder!

September 13, 2008

I’M NOT YOUR BOYFRIEND!!!!

Remember when cartoons made sense?  Whatever happened to that?

In my generation we had cartoons like He-man, Shera, JEM (cuz she’s truly outrageous yo), Rainbow Bright, Fat Albert, Dungeons and Dragons, Carebears, etc.  AND the kicker is that they all made sense.  There were good guys and bad guys and some kind of colorful plot in between.

BUT NOW… there are these new cartoons and I must say it’s almost like seeing a bad dream unfold.

Owiebear has been hooked on cartoon network lately.  Apparently, Wonderpets, Dora, Diego and the Little Einsteins are “for babies” now.

But seriously… have you ever sat down and watched these *new* cartoons?  I recently had the … erm.. pleasure? of sitting down to watch Chowder Island and some cartoon where a character yells out “captain!” and I must say it reminds me of a bad acid trip.  Like something the Beatles would have written a song about back in the day when long hair, bell bottoms, not taking showers and drugs were used to expand the mind.

I have to say that as much as I loathed having the Backyardigans theme song stuck in my head all-day-long… I kinda miss it.

Shhh…. don’t tell anyone I said that.  I will deny.

Weekend Update

September 7, 2008

Everything has been relatively copesetic this past weekend.  I have mentioned this probably a thousand times but I can’t believe how fast time flies by!  It seems like things happened “just yesterday” even though it has been weeks, months, years!

I was down in the basement this morning going through old boxes with the hopes of condensing the clutter.  I came across a box of antique plates that we got for a wedding present oh-so-long ago.  They are numbered and very heavy.  I think i’m going to sell them to an antique store.  Provided that that is how antique stores work?  I’m not sure if they sell the stuff for you and then take a commission or if they buy the stuff from you and then sell it themselves for profit.

Husb was helping and then he decided to go off with a friend and find Harley parts. Boys and their mechanical toys… I swear!

It’s a lovely day in the neighborhood and a gentle breeze is blowing through the living room. Husb and the kids are down for a nap now! I think i’m going to continue to work on my website project and continue watching the season premiere of 90210.

Oh yeah that reminds me…. How exciting is it that 90210 is back?! I mean… well… not with the original cast… but still! Now if only the powers that be could put Melrose Place back on the air, I would be a happy girl! Too bad Marcia Cross already has another acting gig! It would be awesome if Kimberley came back from the dead again!

Happy Sunday everyone! :)

This or that?

September 2, 2008

We are really excited over here! We think we’d like to buy the house and transform the downstairs into a finished family area plus extra bedroom!

Though I admit that I had to ask myself how important it was to me that our first house be something we pick out together not something we buy from a family member. At first it was a slight issue but now it doesn’t matter. It’s like saying I will except nothing less than Kohler faucets even though the goal is to have a faucet that runs water and does its job regardless of kind.

So, as soon as we talk to the MIL about it… it will be semi-official!
