Octuplet Mom… what’s your take?

I have been seeing the so-dubbed “Octuplet mom” on every station at least once a day.  People are fascinated with her to the point of insanity.  It seems to me as though she’s a lady reaching out for help and not just with her 14 children (all of whom are beautiful).  Granted, her situation is overwhelming, i’ll give you that.  Even that may be an understatement.  But what I don’t understand is the public outcry over her decisions.  She’s not a drug addict, she holds a college degree, she’s a good mom (no history of abuse) and likes children.  Yet the world is in ethical debate over this matter.  Granted, she had all of her children via invitro fertalization and has no husband… but does that necessarily maker her unfit to be a good mom to 14 children?

On a side note… I have three and there are days when it feels like I have 100.  So I couldn’t imagine having 14.  Just the thought of it makes me want to hide.

Oh and does anyone else think that the term Octmom or Octomom sounds along the same lines as the villainous doctor octopus from the Spiderman series?  Eh.  Maybe it’s just me…

I am interested to hear opinions on this… so shout it out!

I think she’s crazy and just wants attention. It really sucks for those kids though.

I hate that they’ve dubbed her the “Octo-Mom,” because it reminds me of an octopus w/ kids – and that’s not pretty! I really feel a lot of compassion for her mother and for her children, but have a hard time mustering a lot for her because I don’t think she did this properly (being on gov’t assistance, taking advantage of her mother’s generosity, bringing children into her dysfunction because she wants to fill her own “void,” etc.) However, at this point, I do think something will have to be done for the benefit of those sweet children.

I have no quarrel with married people who choose to have large families, provided they can take care of them properly. In fact, my dad was the 10th child in his family – and they are all great, loving people!

Let’s hope her story has a happy ending, for the sake of her children.

See Lori, you make an excellent point! I did not know that she was relying on the government to take care of her family. I did hear somewhere that her mom is in danger of losing the house. What a sad situation for the mom and those kids! :(

It makes me wonder if she was counting on getting her own reality show like Jon and Kate?

I saw her on Dr. Phil today… I usually don’t watch that, but saw him talking to her so I did for a little bit… I have mixed views. I don’t know how she will be able to take care of so many children and her mom seems irritated with her. She doesn’t have a home to take them to. I just think if she was thinking clearly she would have made more preparations for them.

I too am in mixed feelings – how does someone on welfare afford IVF I wonder???????? I’m sure she is a loving mum, but why would you do this if you couldn’t afford it?

It makes me upset because she kept doing and it was selfish and inresponsible. I agree with the person above, how does someone with no job, husband and on welfae afford IFV. Taht’s why it’s such an eithical matter. we can’t run our back on these kids because their humans and need help but she is kind of crazy. it just upsets me to see someone so selfish. she has no plans to take of these kids and the ones she does have are dilusional. this whole situation is so sad.
