What is this blog about anyway?

When I started blogging, I did it because I love to write. It is a fascinating thing to be able to type out your thoughts and publish to a cute blog layout and then perhaps get some affirmation from fellow readers. If not for potential readers… then why blog publicly?

Still… as the years have gone by (almost 3!), I have noticed that my blog isn’t really what you could categorize as a blog all about parenting. I mention my husband and kids quite a bit but not really in a specific manner. There are so many things going on with me and so I cover a variety of topics. I suppose “mixed bag” would be more suffice if I had to find a category to fit into.

The great thing about blogging is that you don’t have to be pigeonholed into a category.  They always say to stick to a subject and write about it to the best of your ability but how many of us can actually stick to one subject?  Our lives are a multitude of subjects so it only makes sense that we would write about a multitude of things.

“mommy blogger” is a term I hear quite often.  At first it was cute, now it seems a bit degrading.  It’s like saying… “oh look!  She’s blogging about poopy diapers again.  How cute!”   The point here is this…. there are plenty of  so called mom-blogs out there with fantastic content on their blog.  They are story tellers, comedians, business women, geeks, and all around interesting women.  These women have large readership on their blogs and command an audience just by their awesome ability to write well and to tell a  good story.

One thing to note is that many blogs start out as one thing and then evolve into something else entirely.  I think to some degree we are all a mixed bag and have different interests and different things to talk about.  Otherwise, why bother?
