What is it about babies and brooms?

My 18 month old loves the broom.  He loves it so much that I have had to in fact find creative places to hide it.  It fascinates him.  It allures him.  It must call to him or something because whenever I grab it out of the closet, he immediately runs toward me and tries to take it from my hands.

I have actually had to *wait* to sweep the floor until he is down for a nap.  He’s also crazy about our floor shark.  But that doesn’t surprise me.  After all, it does make a cool noise and it rolls on the floor like a car.  But I still can’t figure the broom thing out.

What do you guys think?  Do your kids play with unusual things around the house?

Why do they have to grow so fast?

A year ago if you asked me if I would have baby fever anytime soon, I would have told you… “NOT A CHANCE”.   Because I have had babies every two years for the past 6 years.  But now that my youngest is growing more into a busy toddler and less of a snuggly baby, I find myself longing for a baby.

I have thought about getting a puppy, but it’s not the same thing.  Or is it?

I love having babies.  I just never liked the pregnancy part.  Especially after the first one.  Because when you are preggo, your body does not belong to you.  So you prepare yourself (once you’ve become a seasoned veteran at being pregnant) for an aching pelvis bone, lack of comfort in bed, and the fact that your ankles may very well swell up to the size of giant water balloons depending on the season you are most pregnant in.

But at the end of all of that, you have a tiny little screaming ball of love.  And giving birth seems to breathe new life into you (because with the sleepless nights, you’re going to need a breath of something).

And I long for that a little right now.

Does baby fever ever really go away?

The time of the season

I look at my little family and I marvel at how fast everyone is growing. My baby is 18 months now. It seems like just yesterday that I was on the exam table waiting for the doctor to confirm the results of the pregnancy test.

And i’m kind of sad that he is going to be my last baby. If you asked me how I felt a year ago… I would have told you to stick a fork in me because I was done having babies. But now that my little one is growing into an active toddler, I miss the baby phase.

I suppose I can always get a puppy. It’s not the same… but maybe that will help with the baby fever?

Infant Shoes…

So the doctor has recommended that I buy Brodykins some hard soled infant shoes.  The problem is, i’m not sure where to get them.  I found Stride Rite and Robeez but that’s it.  It’s a little hard for me to justify spending $40+ on shoes for an infant.  Especially, since baby feet grow so quickly.

Where do you get shoes for your baby?  Any store/brand suggestions would be very helpful!

Ask me how my night went

It seems that I quite frequently discuss my lack of sleep on this here blog.  So, in keeping with consistency, I *must* tell you about my night last night.  It was exhausting.  I felt like I had a newborn again.  Poor Brodykins woke up every two hours with leaky diapers and hunger cries.  By the end of the night, I wanted to cry with him.   I would love to say that the night consisted only of me waking up every two hours to tend to Brodykins, but the fact of the matter is, Miss busy girl and Mr. Chatty were also up during the “in between” intervals.  Finally, at 5:30 am, I gave up on sleep.  So I padded out to the living room to enjoy about 45 minutes of quiet time on the internet.  Which is normally welcome, when one isn’t tired as hell.  Know what I mean?

This virus they have is one heck of a monster!  It’s still hanging on after almost a week!  One minute they’ll look fine and the next, dinner (or breakfast or lunch or a snack) is coming back up and onto the carpet with a vengeance.

If I could beat the sickness up, I think I would at this point.  But who am I kidding?  I’m getting the crap kicked out of me by sheer exhaustion.  I think the sickness is winning.

Dang, I hope it goes away soon.

Shopping for babies

Lately I have been trying to search for some good sales on baby items (i.e. clothes and diapers). Is it just me or is everything rising at an alarming rate?  Inflation at its finest, folks.

So I have been shopping for baby B.  We decided to name him Broderick.  I can’t remember whether or not I remembered to mentioned that.  Anyway, I have yet to find a good sale.  You know, the kind where you can stock up to your heart’s content and know that you will be pleasantly rewarded with a discounted bill once everything has been rung up.

No such luck here.  I’m thinking of trying a store called Once Upon a Child.  It is a children’s clothing and accessories consignment shop.  They only take gently used items so you are sure to end up with great clothes at bargain prices.  I am addicted to that store.  I’ll admit it and with no shame.  I plunked down some change a few months ago to outfit my daughter and son for the short spring season.  Now, i’m quite ready to do it again!  Hee!

My friends have been extremely generous in giving me any clothes that their babies have outgrown!  I am so thankful for that!  I seriously have rocking mom friends!

Rambling here… it is amazing to me how frugal I am now as compared to the days when Owiebear was just a little cub.   Of course, the outrageous gas prices don’t help any.

I am forever looking for ways to save money, so here is a question for moms of more than one….

How do you save money when buying clothes, accessories, etc. for your children?

Enlighten me please! :)
