In the wake of universal healthcare, I believe that people are starting to re-assess how important have the right insurance is in their own life. I know that I have taken it upon myself to price up different life insurance leads. If something ever happened to me, I would want my husband and children taken care of because ultimately, that is the most important thing. If you travel for the holidays it is a good idea to be prepared. Anything could happen.

Right now, husb and I are on the other end of the stick when it comes to healthcare and health insurance. Obtaining it through his company would be about $1000 a month out of pocket and we can’t afford to buy our own policy (a policy worth anything for our family of 5 would cost $450 a month).

Because we are on this end of the spectrum, it leaves me wondering if nationalized healthcare is really all that bad? I am conservative fiscally but definitely a little more liberal when it comes to social issues. There just seems to be no balance to this issue. Some people assume that nationalized healthcare equals socialization. But good health is essential to the survival of our society is it not? My husband and I pay our taxes (as do many other Americans) and yet there is this assumption that if you are on state-run medical program that you are useless and sucking off of the system. In my opinion, that’s just not true. It may be that your company does not offer insurance or if they do, it costs an arm and a leg and is not logically affordable. So what are you supposed to do? Plus, to try and pay your bill outright is usually not feasible either as costs of doctor-visits, lab work and hospitalization is outrageous.

Where is the happy-medium in this situation? I personally would love to hear from anyone who is happy or unhappy with their current insurance situation. I would especially love to hear from those who live in countries with nationalized medicine. Do you like it? If not, why? If so, why?

Because of those questions, I have seriously been looking into getting some term life quotes. Having life insurance would make me feel at ease a little more if something should happen to my husband or I.

Do you have a life insurance policy? Does it make you feel a little more at peace?

I know that on some level this is supposed to be a “mommy blog” but there are also a lot of “non-mommy” related thoughts that float through my brain on a daily basis. One of those thoughts happened to hit me just now and so here I am blogging about it.

health insurance. Yep. You got it. The big H.I. topic that is on everyone’s mind these days. Especially as companies are either not offering good plans or are cutting down on manpower thereby leaving people high and dry without coverage.

Health insurance used to cost pennies. According to my dad (a really reliable resource since he lurvs history!), back in the day people didn’t have health insurance. It was considered fruitless. If your child was sick (or if you were sick), then you would go to the doctor’s, pay your bill and be on with your life. Sounds rather cozy right?

The problem is, in today’s world, health insurance has become much more a need than a luxury item. Companies have been forced to offer health insurance to employees because that’s sort of the way it has been for many years now.

What would be great would be to find health coverage that is affordable and offers similar (if not the same) benefits that a large company could offer.

I am currently on the search for such a company. Does anyone have any ideas on where to start looking? Many of the plans i’ve researched offer less and cost hundreds of dollars a month. In a word…. very expensive for a one-income family.

Husb and I recently received our adjusted insurance bill that adds on the new van. All I have to say is … yikes! Our rate went up $100 every month. We have been with our current insurance company for about 8 years and feel that it is time to shop around a bit. I have been trying find good deals by shopping for auto insurance online.

Where do you get your insurance and do you feel you are getting a good rate?
