At least it gives me a little time to do my web stuff. But still… I have the night off from homework and wanted to hang out with him.

Today, I bought a Nintendo 64 (with expansion pack, controllers, and 2 games). Now, the Nintendo is a throwback from my childhood. I loved playing Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong! I felt I got a good deal for the whole system. I hooked it up at home and Owie and I played Super Mario Brothers and Star Wars!

Vintage gaming at its finest!

Video games fascinate me. I am always in awe of what designers, programmers and writers come up with when they come together to work on various video game projects. As the technology becomes more advanced, so do the video games.

Now tell me… i’m not the only mom out there who likes video games… right?

So, for a few years I was a dedicated member to a message board by the name of karaokerevolution.net. I am a big fan of the karaoke revolution gaming series and found that I wasn’t alone. Each week (or month.. depending on how busy I was), I would visit this forum and chat with the other members about the song lists, gameplay, etc.

Anyway, one day last summer I went to check on one of my favorite message boards and *POOF!* the site seemed to have vanished into thin air. I Googled the site name to see if I could find any blog posts or comments at the very least as to what happened to the board and found nothing but crickets on the internet.

Then… today… I Googled once more and found their location! Only this time instead of karaokerevolution.net they are rhythmgamers.net. This of course makes perfect sense as the forums started to encompass all of the music games (Rock Band, Singstar, etc.).

If you are a lover of music games like I am… check them out!

When it comes to video games, I prefer those of the RPG or music genre. I’m not coordinated enough to tackle a first person shooter game and racing games just don’t interest me.

However, after watching G4 T.V. last Sunday, husb and I came across a game that looked like it could be fun for the whole family! It’s called “Little Big Planet”.

In this game, you can create the main character and make a “sackboy” or a “sackgirl” tailored to how you want it to look! You can add any emotion you want to your little sack person! You can even create your own levels!

It’s a fun game because it is sort of an updated version of a throwback of the old Super Mario. However, this game has absolutely no violence and there is no princess to rescue this time. Your little sack person basically travels along through these levels collecting various items. The laws of physics are applied and so when you think that something should fall or bend a certain way, it does! It also makes good use of the axis controls (meaning you can make your little guy nod, dance, etc.).

If you are looking for a good non-violent video game that has excellent graphics and a great interface and something that the whole family will enjoy, check out “Little Big Planet”!

So, D wants to take some money out of our checking account to buy a Playstation 3. We have a Nintendo Wii but he is already bored with it and wants to sell it to his boss so that we can buy a PS3. At first, I was a little upset. I mean, come on. We've only had the Wii for like 4 months. We haven't really played it enough to make a decision on whether or not we like it. Some things I really like, others not so much. The controllers on the Wii are really cool and super easy to use. However, aside from that hype there really aren't any good games for it. Granted, the system is fairly new and still developing, but for all intents and purposes, the Wii has more appeal to the very young (ages 3 – 11) than for teens and adults. I loved playing Mario on Nintendo (when I was a kid), but really, Mario's not the same anymore. Of course it could also be that my taste in video games have changed as well. Who knows.

Do you own a Wii or a PS3? Which do you prefer? If you have a Wii, do you have buyer's remorse? Or is it the best game console you have seen in awhile?
